Composts and Garden Care Products.

Westland Multi-purpose Compost

Choose a compost that gives exceptional results when planting, and use Multi-Purpose Compost with added John Innes. This quality compost combines the excellent physical properties of a quality multi-purpose compost, with the practical advantages of a loam based (soil based) compost. The result is a versatile compost with a healthy, open structure that promotes good drainage. Added perlite improves the texture and creates the optimum air/moisture ratio for your plants. The inclusion of John Innes makes this a truly superior compost that is easier to manage and maintain because it retains water and added nutrients for longer. It’s perfect for all non ericaceous plants including, trees, shrubs, perennials and it’s even ideal for container plants too.

Westland Irish Moss Peat

Top quality, medium grade sphagnum moss peat. Specially formulated to enrich, nourish and improve soil structure.

Uses:
Use before sowing new lawns, to condition soil and when planting trees and shrubs.

Westland Rhododendron, Azalea & Camellia Compost

An advanced ericaceous nutrient-rich compost ideal for most young plants, providing the correct growing conditions for optimum growth. Perlite has been added to improve the compost structure and allow adequate air movement around the roots.

Uses:
Ideal for sowing, taking cuttings, potting on and planting all ericaceous oracid loving plants such as Rhododendrons, Azaleas, Camellias, Berberis, Pieris, Skimmia, Hydrangea, Orchids, Conifers and Raspberries.

Westland Mini Chipped Bark

For large areas, especially around established trees and shrubs choose a mulch with bigger pieces such as Chipped Bark. This will look better on a large scale and also cover the area more effectively. Be sure to remove all perennial weeds first, otherwise they will grow up through the mulch. It is essential to dig out all of the roots or every piece left will grow into a new weed. Apply the mulch when the ground is wet, mid to late winter is the best time if there has been plenty of rain. The mulch will help to conserve soil moisture and also insulate your plant roots from extremes of temperature. It will stop weed seeds from germinating in bare areas and also suppress weed growth from below.

Westland Top Soil

The lawn will have removed nutrients from the soil below and the ground will have been compacted over time by passing feet and lawnmowers. You need to dig over the area thoroughly removing any large stones and perennial weeds. Build up the soil from the centre outwards using Top Soil. This is a specially selected, sterilised and graded garden top soil that is ideal for use when creating new beds. If the soil is lacking in substance you could also dig in Soil Conditioner that will add more organic matter to the soil and help improve its overall structure
